Welcome to St James Priory

A very special place – Healing, Heritage and Hospitality in the heart of Bristol

Healing: The Church has been a centre of healing since the 12th Century. Our residential support services for vulnerable people are open to all in need, whatever their background or circumstance.

Heritage: The former Benedictine Priory of St James is the oldest building in Bristol! It has a fascinating story to tell and has witnessed almost 900 years of Bristol’s development.

Hospitality: Like our Benedictine predecessors we extend a warm welcome to all who visit. The café serves delicious refreshments and our well-equipped Meeting Rooms and central locality make us an ideal venue for meetings, conferences and community group bookings.

St James Priory Project Bristol – 2024

St James Priory Project is the Charity which has responsibility for the Historic Grade 1 listed Priory Church which dates from the 12th Century. It also operates St James House, which provides on site Supported Housing accommodation for people in recovery from addiction. Walsingham House, in the grounds of the Church, is now leased out as accommodation for Catholic students.

The Charity is reliant on donations to provide an ongoing financial support for the upkeep of the Grade 1 listed St James Priory church.

The  Café is an invaluable source of revenue. Please support it when you visit the Church.

Our Meeting Rooms, are also a key revenue stream. Donations via the Church from visitors has decreased considerably.

The Church is expensive to maintain and to keep open.

Whilst we have had a gradual return for some of our revenue sources such as the Meeting Room Hire visitors to the church are still low.

We are, therefore, continuing to appeal to our friends, followers and supporters to ask if you are able to commit to a donation to the Charity. Please consider becoming a FRIEND OF ST JAMES. (See below for details.)

Donations can be made via our website or via the Donations portal in the Church. There is also the facility to Gift Aid as well.
